Old Brown Dog Genetics is a homegrown cannabis genetics/breeding program started by Max in CT. Our company is driven by passion, curiosity, and a genuine love for the plant.

Our approach is simple: keep it personal, keep it authentic, and keep it fun. We are dedicated to sharing our love for cannabis and its endless possibilities. Old Brown Dog Genetics isn’t about following trends but about finding the fascinating, unique traits this plant has to offer.

Running the operation is a mix of exploration, dedication, and a deep connection to the entire process. Everything is done with care and attention to detail. It’s not just about breeding cannabis; it’s about creating something that reflects the values of simplicity, quality, and the joy of discovery.

The company name comes from our Old Brown Dog, Brewer. He oversees op-paw-rations at Old Brown Dog Genetics. He’s old enough to retire but loves the work.

Purple Punch "X" x Cinderella Purple #6 F1 - Selection from Purple Punch "X" by Purple Cape. This is their version of Purple Punch. Purple Punch "X" seed stock was made using a clone only phenotype of the Cali Grape.

MAC #1 x OG Kush "X" F2 - (F1 seed stock by Purple Caper in CA )- OGX is Purple Caper's version of OG Kush the cross is: Fire OG x True OG. My selections for F2 are MAC #1 leaning.

MacLilac F1 - (MacMo x Lilac OG)- MacMo is (Mac1 x Elmo's Army) from Dirty Bird Genetics and Lilac OG is from ETHOS.

Lilac OG BX F2 - Selected my favorite Lilac OG BX male and female. ETHOS seed stock was used.

What I'm working on currently:
I'm currently searching for the next generation parents for MacLilac F2.

MacLilac F1s (MacMo× Lilac OG BX) are showing two pretty distinct growth styles. Some are short and bushy with big U-shaped branch bends, while others are taller and want to shoot straight up at the light. Terpene wise: I'm getting floral/lilac plants, spicy plants, and some that have a mix of both. It'll be interesting to see how they finish, but I'm hoping to find a plant that has the stronger lilac/floral smell along with the bushier structure. Still a lot of flower left, but there's already some nice variation showing up.

New England Lights S1 (seeds)

New England Lights (NEL) was a clone-only cut circulating in Connecticut and the greater New England area in the last couple years. After several successful runs, I decided to self this cut to preserve the line.

Expect some phenotypic variation in this S1 generation. Plants express heavy citrus notes during early to mid-flower and finish with a balanced mix of gas, citrus, and pine. Stretch is vigorous. Plants will typically at least double in height during flower. Harvest window falls between 60–70 days.

Blueberry Lights F1 (seeds)

Profile: Gas, bright citrus, pine, berry

Blueberry Lights is an F1 cross between Blueberry Sunset (Blazed Genetics CT) and my New England Lights cut (Durban Poison × Northern Lights). Blueberry Sunset adds increased bud size and contributes a rich purple finish late in flower.

Expect moderate phenotypic variation in this generation. Plants show average stretch, typically doubling in size. Early flower is dominated by bright citrus, transitioning into gas, citrus, and subtle berry notes as plants mature. Harvest window falls between 60–70 days.

Our OBD: Brewer

Brewer is more than just the namesake, he’s the heart and soul of Old Brown Dog Genetics. Our 5 year old lab is my loyal sidekick in the garden, always close by as I tend to the plants. He’s happiest on a hike, snuggled up snoring, or...let’s be real...eating anything he can find (food is life).

Clumsy, sweet, and endlessly loveable, Brewer brings the same calm, goofy energy to the grow as he does to every trail we wander. If there’s soil to dig or sunshine to nap in, he’s already there. He'll probably indulge in a soil snack too.
